New EASA regulations are about to replace existing rules on the operation of aircraft and flight crew licensing. Regulation 216/2008 has extended the scope of the European Union's competence to the operation of aircraft.
In 2012 the new implementing rules will become effective. EU-OPS and JAR-OPS 3 will be replaced by a new cover regulation on the operation of aircraft. EASA has already published the final opinions on the subject. The EU Commission is going to adopt the new regulations shortly.
